I went and got my brothers Jaguar restored at the British car specialist. And they did a wonderful job. They made his car look brad new. They but a who new body kit on it and painted as well as a new engine. I think he is going to put it ina car show next year. It over 1000 hours to restore.

I would hate to think how much something like that would cost. Many people who are into restoration or classic cars do the work themselves. I do not know of anyone who had the money to have it done for them.

Unless it's a very rare and valuable car, it's not a very good investment to have a car restored by someone else - it usually costs more than the car's worth. As a result, it's often done out of sentimentality (or even "love" of the car).

Andy I asked this in another thread, I just can't think of the name and was hoping that you would. There is a manual in the UK that car owners can buy-at least COULD buy for the older cars-I haven't looked recently. It's aimed at those people who want to fix their cars themselves-what's the name?!

Are you thinking of Haynes manuals - http://www.haynes.co.uk ?

I believe they can also be bought in the US from the likes of Amazon, etc.

Thank you! Yes I was thinking of Hanes...the trouble is that in America, Hanes makes underwear, and so, being blonde and all, my brain got confused. Knickers and car manuals are too dissimilar for me to remember what both are  Grin

Chilton also has repair manuals.  I used to use them years ago.  I believe many repair shops also use Chilton publications.

It would be great to get a car restored by a professional but as mentioned it would be quite expensive.  If someone can afford it though I say go for it!
