As the British Classic Car forums are still new and finding our feet, we currently do not have a high turnover of posts - having too many forums at this stage will make the site look emptier than it is (which can turn people off, believe it or not).

So, only the most common and popular marques have been added presently - this does not mean that your favourite make of car is isn't worthy of inclusion! If you feel that it should have its own forum, send me a Private Message (PM). The only thing I ask is that you help make that forum grow.

If there is demand for a marque, a new category will be created with a "General" chat forum to start off with. As demand permits, this will be split off into more specialist forums - see the "MG" category as an example.

This is a list of potential marques (please feel free to add any more that you know of):

Aston Martin
Bentley
DeLorean
Jaguar
Jensen
Healey
Hillman
Land Rover
Lotus
Mini (could have a section on its own, but probably be under Austin/Morris)
Morgan
Morris (and Austin?)
Sunbeam
Rolls Royce
TVR
Vauxhall (pre-GM)

Should pre-war classics have their own forums?

It was only tonight that I realised how complicated it is trying to separate the forum into manufacturer. There have been so many mergers and take overs, that perhaps doing it that way isn't best. Just looking at where MG has been throughout it's time, with Austin, Rover, BMW, and now MG Rover group. There is too much of a cross over. Maybe a rethink would help the layout?

I did ponder for a while as to how to divide things up. In the end, I decided to stick with the car's marques, like MG, as while the parent company may have changed at least once or twice over the years, the badge hasn't.

Like the classic Mini, it was Austin, British Leyland and then Rover, but essentially, it hardly changed over the 41 (I think) year production run.

It's the same with Triumph and MG, while the parent companies changed, they were still still marketed as Triumph and MG. Perhaps the only exception here is is the MG Metro and Montego - these were British Leyland cars with the MG badge, much like VW sticks the "GTi" badge on a Golf. They weren't really MGs.

I'll keep things as they are for now, I will however, review this decision as the forums evolve.

That makes sense. Like I say I had just never considered it until that point when it suddenly hit me, but since you already did consider it, I'll go away and be quiet  Grin

I think pre-war classics should have a forum.  Even though they would be considered "antique" rather than "classic", wouldn't they?
